About & Traditional Use

Dried hibiscus flowers, known in Spanish as flor de jamaica, have a bright, tart, cranberry-like flavor and a deep ruby color when steeped.

Ours are grown and sun-dried in Nigeria, in the West African belt where Hibiscus sabdariffa is native and thrives in the tropical climate.

Hibiscus is enjoyed across cultures — as a chilled Mexican agua de jamaica, as West African zobo and bissap, and as a hot or iced herbal infusion — always prized for its vivid color and refreshing tang.

How to Brew

For agua de jamaica, simmer the dried flowers in water for about 10 minutes, strain, then sweeten to taste and serve over ice.

For a hot infusion, steep a tablespoon of flowers in hot water for 5 to 8 minutes and strain. Adjust steeping time to control tartness.

Recipes

Agua de Jamaica: Simmer flowers, strain, sweeten and chill for a classic Mexican refresher.

Zobo (West African Hibiscus Drink): Steep with fresh ginger and pineapple, strain, sweeten and serve chilled.

Hibiscus Iced Tea: Brew strong, add lime and mint, and serve over ice.

Hibiscus-Cinnamon Blend: Steep with a cinnamon stick for a warm, spiced infusion.
